Window Seat (Connecting Flight)
BRASS CHOIR & PERCUSSION
PROGRAM NOTES
Window Seat (Connecting Flight) is adapted from my orchestral work Window Seat, a piece inspired by the miracle of flight as a metaphor for wonder and perspective. The subtitle reflects this version's condensed form—a shorter musical journey drawn from the larger work.
I have always been struck by flying. The act of a plane lifting from the ground and carrying us great distances in a short time continues to feel extraordinary. On a recent flight, I noticed that few passengers engaged with that moment, rarely looking out the window. It prompted me to consider how familiarity can diminish our sensitivity to moments of genuine wonder.
Scored for brass choir and percussion, Connecting Flight focuses on the exhilarating, forward-driving energy of the parent work, inviting listeners to rediscover a sense of awe, anticipation, and possibility.
